SURFACE WAVES

Surface wave is a term used to describe a certain type of seismic phenomena caused by explosions, earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. Surface waves, as opposed to body waves, travel along the Earth’s surface rather than through the interior. The idea of “Surface Waves” was to explore resonance in its most concrete form. To generate sound through sound. By exposing a surface to sound, vibrations were generated. The vibrations induced movement in the materials on the surface and through this movement new sound was generated. The initial sound was used as a trigger for a chain of resonance and resulted in a moving sound sculpture where the movement of the materials became an integral part of the artwork as a whole.
