ARGUMENT
“I’ll believe it when I see it” is a popular idiom, testifying to the dominance of visual information in human perception. As human beings, however, we are surrounded by sound waves we cannot see, accumulating important auditory information about the world around us. The kinetic sound sculptures "New York Series" address exactly this phenomenon in an attempt to allow us to see sound. Using a variable set of parameters such as distance, amplitude, and frequency, these works consist of different materials attached to the membrane of a loudspeaker, revealing the unpredictable movement of sound to the viewer.
